ABC Shortens Scandal Season 3: Order Reduced to 18 Episodes From 22

With a baby on the way for Kerry Washington, shooting upcoming season 3 episodes are proving to be pretty tricky. As a result, ABC has decided to shorten the episode order for the current third season by 4 episodes.

Covering up a pregnant actress playing a non-pregnant character is something that showrunner Shonda Rhimes is totally familiar with, having dealt with the issue with Sarah Drew's pregnancy during Grey's Anatomy Season 8. In that case, the season wasn't shortened; she was just written as standing behind desks a lot, and wardrobe adjusted accordingly. We honestly thought she'd be taking this route for Kerry's pregnancy, or that Olivia Pope would get a matching pregnancy (twinsies!), but hey, a cut season works, too. As long as they're coming back, whatever's clever.

Kerry's baby with her NFL player husband Nnamdi Asomugha is likely due sometime in the Spring of 2014.

Is this how you thought Scandal would handle Kerry's pregnancy? Were you hoping for a baby for Olivia? Weigh in below!
