Maks Chmerkovskiy Is Ready to Reinvent Himself, Invest in Acting Over Dancing — Exclusive

Since leaving Dancing With the Stars after All-Stars (Season 15), Maks Chmerkovskiy has kept busy with everything from designing jewelry to performing on Broadway with Karina Smirnoff to dating model Kate Upton, and now he’s ready to take the next step. However, his focus won’t be on dancing — it will be on acting.

After a brief stint on General Hospital, Maks is ready to tackle bigger projects, telling Wetpaint Entertainment that he’s “working on acting” and is “very serious about it.” While friends and family sipped ZING Red Velvet Vodka cocktails at brother Val’s Valentin clothing line launch on October 17 at Philippe in Beverly Hills, the former dance pro opened up to us about reinventing himself.

“It’s a blessing to be 33, take time off to be able to reinvent yourself, even go back to school a little bit. I’m enjoying tremendously lessons, I have a phenomenal coach, incredible surroundings, and I love it,” he said of his current status. “There is other stuff happening as well — you’ll know as soon as it happens.”

While he loves his time off, he admits he doesn’t want it to last too long. He’s filling free hours with great causes, though, participating in a lot of charity works. “It’s meaningful and definitely something I’m interested in,” he said, likely in reference to his work with the USO for Dance With the Troops. “I try to help as much as I can, otherwise why are we here? Why are we doing this?

Don’t worry about Maks not dancing, though. He promises that after his successful Broadway run with Karina, he’s “looking forward to doing a couple more appearances with Forever Tango when they come back to the United States.” But as for returning to DWTS? He isn’t certain.

“I will leave it up to the Powers That Be. Never say never, but honestly I’m happy, everybody is happy. Everybody is settled and everybody is OK with where we are,” he revealed. “I never wanted it to look like I left or there was some bad blood — there isn’t. It’s very hard to explain to fans and viewers and all that. I do my best. Honestly, I just want my future work to speak for itself.”

Hey, as long as we have Maks in our lives, we don’t care how we get him. Do you think he should focus on acting, dancing, or both? Share your thoughts below!
