Kim Kardashian’s already mastered the three B’s of the entertainment industry — boobs, butt, and branding. Now it looks like she’s taking a page from the Angelina Jolie playbook by earning herself an A in activism.
Kim, who is of Armenian descent on her father’s side, took to social media to raise awareness and lend her support to survivors of the 1915 Armenian Genocide, during which an estimated 1.5 million Armenians were murdered in the Ottoman empire.
Kim posted a photo of herself alongside a survivor of the massacre on Instagram, writing, “Honored to be at the USC SHOAH Foundation event to support Armenian genocide testimonies. I'm sitting next to the most inspiring 100 year old Armenian genocide survivor.”
While Kim’s family has long made their support for the Armenian community known (remember that very special episode of Khloe and Lamar in which Khloe Kardashian explains the Armenian Genocide to Lamar?), it looks like Kim is starting to branch out by committing to new-to-her social causes, like racism in America.
On May 7, Kim took to her blog to bemoan the discrimination she fears her daughter, North, will come up against as she grows older.
“To be honest, before I had North, I never really gave racism or discrimination a lot of thought,” wrote Kim
“I feel a responsibility as a mother, a public figure, a human being, to do what I can to make sure that not only my child, but all children, don’t have to grow up in a world where they are judged by the color of their skin, or their gender, or their sexual orientation. I want my daughter growing up in a world where love for one another is the most important thing. So the first step I’m taking is to stop pretending like this isn’t my issue or my problem, because it is, it’s everyone’s.”
Are you surprised by Kim’s activist streak?
