Which Game of Thrones Actor Was Reportedly Replaced for Season 4?

In a show as willing to cut characters as Game of Thrones, are we really surprised that a character’s been recast for Season 4? Answer: No, but for the love of the Seven please tell us it’s not Daenerys.

Well, reign in those dragons, D devotees. Our favorite Lady of Liberty as played by Emilia Clarke is safe (for now) as is Tyrion Lannister (Team Peter Dinklage forever!). In fact, the casting switch affects a slightly less prominent character: Tommen Baratheon, aka little brother to crazy scary King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson).

The Mary Sue reports that actor Callum Wharry is being replaced by Dean-Charles Chapman. The switch is likely because 15-year-old Dean-Charles has more acting experience under his baldric; he played Richard Grey in the Starz historical drama The White Queen and, in fact, has already appeared on GoT as the unfortunate Martyn Lannister, a squire who gets on Rickard Karstark’s bad side during Season 3.

Seeing as the middle child of Cersei (Lena Headey) and Jaime’s (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) secret incestuous love affair hasn’t exactly been a leading character, why the change? As readers of the books know, Tommen won’t stay in the shadows for much longer so casting a more seasoned actor makes sense, but your presence as the non-crazy Baratheon boy will be missed, Callum!
