Adam Levine has officially made his big screen debut in the musical romance film Begin Again, but his paycheck for the role was anything but big. In fact, the Maroon 5 singer and coach on The Voice tells USA Today he did it for free!
“I did this movie for no money,” Adam says of his part in the new film by director/writer John Carney (Once), adding, “I’m very lucky that I’m in that position. I want to have good experiences. I don’t want to do a bunch of s—t that I hate.”
Adam admits acting wasn’t a “lifelong passion” for him — that’d be music, obviously, which made the unfamiliar experience all the stranger to him. “The oddest thing about being an actor was that I’m not an actor, so being one is surreal,” he shares. Thankfully, he had plenty of common ground with his character, since he plays a musician who makes it big.
As for being a real-life famous person, Adam admits it doesn’t suck, saying the best part about being a celebrity is being able to go to any restaurant he wants, whenever he wants. “Anyone who doesn’t tell you that’s the best part is crazy.”
Uh, we’re pretty sure being so rich and successful you can just go do a movie for no money is the coolest thing about being you, Adam. But getting to eat at Nobu at the drop of a hat probably doesn’t suck either!
