Alec Baldwin Issues Apology For Homophobic Slur After MSNBC Suspension (UPDATE)

Update (November 15, 2013, 9:00 p.m.): Alec Baldwin has been suspended by MSNBC. His weekly talk show, which airs Fridays, will not appear tonight or next week in light of an insult he hurled at a paparazzi. He now admits that the remark was “offensive” with a second, more official statement. “I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have — and for that I am deeply sorry.” The apology also acknowledges the power of hateful slurs. “Words are important. I understand that, and will choose mine with great care going forward. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that i vigorously support.”

We hope he’s learned his lesson.

Update (November 15, 2013, 4:21 p.m.): Alec Baldwin has apologized for half of his alledged name-calling, tweeting, “Rich Ferraro from GLAAD informs me that c'sucker is an anti-gay epithet, in which case I apologize and will retire it from my vocabulary.”

TMZ reports that Alec has denied using the f-word, claiming that he actually said “fathead.” Granted, the audio in question does get a little indiscernible at the end, but we’re only hearing one syllable, not two.

In a press release, GLAAD asserts, “Mr. Baldwin can’t lend his support for equality on paper, while degrading gay people in practice. It’s clearly time he listens to the calls from so many LGBT people and allies to end this pattern of anti-gay slurs.”

Original story (November 14, 2013):

Not again! Alec Baldwin was caught on camera using what TMZ claims to be yet another homophobic slur.

“Get away from my wife and the baby with the camera,” an enraged Alec says after getting out of his stopped town car and shooing away a nosy pap while another films the scene.

The former 30 Rock star then starts chasing the cameraman before a woman’s voice — belonging to wife Hilaria, perhaps? — calls out for him saying “it’s time to go.” Alec slows, turns, and, still looking pissed, heads back to the safety of his car but not before calling the photog a “c--ksucking f-g.”

Or at least that’s what TMZ claims Alec says. The audio is a bit jumbled at that point and hard to make out. Unfortunately, however, Alec does have a reputation for using anti-gay language when looking to offend. Earlier this year he referred to journalist George Start as a “toxic little queen” in a threatening Twitter rant.

The actor later apologized, issuing a statement to GLAAD where he called his “attack” on George “ill-advised” and said it “had absolutely nothing to do with issues of anyone’s sexual orientation.” Alec refers to himself as “someone who fights against homophobia.” That’s great! Now walk the walk.
