Alec Baldwin Responds to New York City Arrest For Bike Ride (VIDEO)

Update (6:17 p.m. ET):

Alec took to Twitter to share his feelings about today's events, identifying the officer who arrested him. "Officer Moreno, badge number 23388, arrested me and handcuffed me for going the wrong way on Fifth Ave," Alec tweeted. "Meanwhile, photographers outside my home ONCE AGAIN terrified my daughter and nearly hit her with a camera. The police did nothing."

His parting thought: "New York City is a mismanaged carnival of stupidity that is desperate for revenue and anxious to criminalize behavior once thought benign." Well, at least free speech is still allowed.

Update (12:36 p.m. ET): As expected, details about Alec's incident are trickling out. An NYPD source tells In Touch that Alec got "belligerent" when officers stopped him for riding his bike the wrong way on a street and asked the actor for identification. The site claims that the cops then gave him two summonses — one for the wrong-way riding and the other for disorderly conduct.

That said, Alec's rep acknowledges the incident but denies the charges, telling the site, "He was not arrested or charged with a crime. He has been released."

Original story (11:35 a.m. ET): Alec Baldwin may claim to be done with public life, but that doesn't mean he can't be arrested quite publicly — which is exactly what seemed to happen today (Tuesday, May 13) as photographers eagerly snapped photos.

In Touch reports that New York City police officers arrested the 56-year-old actor Tuesday morning. There's no official word on why Alec found himself in handcuffs, but In Touch's source claims that "he was riding his bike the wrong way and didn't have ID on him."

Photos posted to the site show Alec — dressed in a shorts, a jacket, and a visor — being guided into the back of a police car with his hands behind his back. A witness tells In Touch that he was "calm and quiet" at the time of the arrest, but another claimed he previously "went ballistic" and was "screaming" at the cops.

The site also cites a source with the New York City Police Department: "The incident just happened. We are wating for details at this time."

This incident is just the latest in a long line of troubles on the streets of New York for the 30 Rock alum. In August, he was photographed tussling with a paparazzo and throwing the man against a car. (No charges were filed.) He also came under fire after allegedly using the homophobic f-word against another photographer in November. (Alec maintains that he said "fathead.")
