Alexia Echevarria on Son Peter’s Arrest and Season 3 of RHOM: Exclusive

The Real Housewives of Miami are back! And with their tan, temperamental return, we have yet another reason to celebrate: Fiery, blonde cast member Alexia Echevarria is back to full housewife status. Last season, she made the understandable decision to scale back her role on the show in the wake of the horrific car accident that left her teenage son Frankie severely debilitated.

Although Frankie’s now on the mend, however, Alexia’s other son, Peter, 21, is making headlines lately — and not in a good way. He was arrested in the fall of 2012 for assaulting a homeless man and again this past April for possession of marijuana. Speaking with Wetpaint Entertainment, Alexia opens up about Peter’s troubles…and dishes some dirt on what we can expect from her this season on RHOM.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Will we be seeing more of both Frankie and Peter this season?

Alexia: Yes, my sons are my life. And last season, my story was not told. You saw bits and pieces, but viewers didn’t see my whole journey. Frankie is progressing every day and I really want to show viewers this miracle.

How can you explain Peter’s behavior with regard to the two arrests?

When Frankie’s accident happened, it had so many other repercussions. It affected Peter tremendously and he got into trouble. But the biggest reason for that is the pain he was going through because of Frankie.

So far, we haven’t seen much of your husband, Herman. Will that change this season?

You’ll see him coming with me to events. He doesn’t love the fact that I’m on the show because he was in public office for a long time. Now, he no longer wants to be in the public eye. But he supports me and he’s seen how the show has helped me. And he knows how important to me it is to send that message of hope and determination and faith in God.

In terms of the wedding war between Joanna and Adriana, whose side do you end up on?

You know, I feel like I’m on everyone’s team. Maybe it’s because I’ve gone through so much that I don’t judge anyone. I also have so much going on in my own life, I don’t seek out extra drama. In my life, there are real problems. So when I see the ladies, I just want it to be all fun and light. It’s not easy, but I do my best to always put a smile on my face and have a good time.

The Real Housewives of Miami airs Monday nights at 9 pm ET / PT on Bravo.
