Biggest Loser Host Alison Sweeney Quits Days of Our Lives After 21 Years (VIDEO)

Soap fans have had a tough go of it over the last few years with the cancellation of daytime favorites like All My Children and One Life to Live, and now they’re about to suffer another blow: Days of Our Lives star — and Biggest Loser host — Alison Sweeney is leaving the NBC show after 21 years.

Alison, who has appeared as bad girl Sami Brady since she was a teen, announced her departure on The Ellen Degeneres Show today (January 21).

"I've been on Days of Our Lives for 21 years. I'm celebrating my 21st year and I decided that it's going to be my last year with the show," Sweeney revealed. "I've been on Days of Our Lives since I was 16-years-old, and I have never had more than a two-week vacation in that whole time. It's awesome. I love Sami, I love Salem, I love my job, I love daytime, I love the fans — I love everything about it."

The mother of two has balanced a demanding filming schedule for the soap and her hosting gig on the NBC weight loss competition for seven years now, and she’s ready to slow down and spend more time with her husband and children.

"My daughter just turned 5 and my son is 9, and I just want to be with them and enjoy my last year. I'm going to be on Days all this year," she detailed. "We don't have a specific time yet, but I'm going to be on all this year and we'll see what happens."

It’s still unsure as to how Sami will be written off the show, but Alison, 37, says that she hopes her trouble-making character has the dramatic ending that she deserves. "It would be awesome to have some kind of happy ending, but then, I also think Sami probably deserves some sort of very twisted like Breaking Bad ending … She's caused a lot of people a lot of problems."

For now, Alison will continue in her role as host on The Biggest Loser, and she’s got a few other projects in the pipeline."I'm really just excited to be with my kids and be with my husband and I don't know, have fun! And I write — my second book's coming out — and I love directing."

Best of luck Alison — we’ll miss you!
