While Lamar Odom has never outright admitted to substance abuse issues, he seems to be acknowledging some truth to those rumors in a new video from TMZ Sports. A paparazzo caught up with Lamar at his alma mater, The University of Rhode Island, where he’s been training with coaches to get back into pro athlete shape.
When asked why he chose to train in New England rather than at home in Los Angeles, Khloe Kardashian’s estranged hubby said he needed ”a little change of atmosphere, a change in environment.” As for why he’s training so hard now, he seemed to feel he’s reaching the end of his career and wants to make sure he goes out on top.
“Basketball is a big part of my life, and I guess it was all about legacy, you know what I’m saying, and the way I wanted to go out,” he confided to TMZ’s cameraman.
Before heading back to practice, Lamar acknowledged the troubles he’s had this summer, which brought numerous reports of infidelity and hard drug use, along with a DUI charge and a scuffle with paparazzi. “I think because of some things that happened this summer, I kinda put basketball aside and waited ‘til the time is right, and now the time is right.”
Sounds to us like Lamar decided he wanted to go down in history books for being a great ball player, rather than...that other mess. We say good for him!
