The Walking Dead Alum Robin Lord Taylor Joins Gotham Pilot — Who’s He Playing?

Actor Robin Lord Taylor only appeared on one episode of The Walking Dead earlier this season — Episode 4: “Indifference” — but he’s being counted as a TWD alum since the hit AMC drama is one of his most recent credits. It doesn’t hurt that “Indifference” is also one of the show’s more memorable installments to date. That was the hour during which Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) banished Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) to suburbia because she confessed to murdering flu-stricken Karen and David.

Robin played a character named Sam in the episode, one of the two people Rick and Carol encountered in an abandoned house. Though wary of Sam and his girlfriend Ana at first, Rick gave them each a gun and gave Sam his watch when the foursome agreed to split up and look for supplies. The plan was that Sam and Ana would meet Rick and Carol back at the house at a designated time, but Rick and Carol later saw Ana’s body being devoured by walkers and never saw Sam again.

We were wondering if the mysterious character would pop up again in the back half of the season, but given Robin’s latest role we doubt he’ll be pulling double duty. TVLine reports that the actor has been added to the cast of Fox’s Gotham, a Batman origin story. The site notes that Robin will be playing Oswald Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin — the same part played by Danny DeVito in the 1992 movie, Batman Returns.

Gotham’s version of The Penguin is described as “a low-level psychopath” who works for a gangster named Fish Mooney. The character apparently “hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.”

The O.C.’s Ben McKenzie is playing the lead role of Detective James Gordon in this highly-anticipated series, while actors Sean Pertwee, (Camelot) Zabryna Guevara, (Burn Notice) and Erin Richards (Breaking In) will play the parts of Alfred Pennyworth, Captain Essen, and James’ fiancée, Barbara Kean, respectively.
