Amber Portwood Says She’ll “Never Be Ashamed” of Her Past
Amber Portwood rose to fame on MTV's 16 and Pregnant, but her life quickly spiraled out of control thanks to reality television overload. Sadly, Amber had her daughter taken away by the CPS after she was filmed choking her baby daddy, Gary Shirley, and to make matters worse, she developed an addiction to Fentanyl patches (yikes!).
Amber then ended up in jail for well over a year. That's the bad news. The good news is that nowadays Amber is clean, sober, living it up in Indiana with her family, and she has approximately zero regrets!
"I will never be ashamed of my past, it makes me who I am today," Amber tweeted on June 23. "I've learned so much it's a blessing not a burden...sending love always."
Amber has been through the ringer, but her long stint in jail was certainly a blessing in disguise. Not only did Amber finish her GED while locked in the slammer, she conquered her drug addiction, became a role model for her fellow inmates, and learned all kinds of life lessons about how to style her hair with Jolly Ranchers. #Blessed!
As far as we're concerned, it's great that Amber has such a positive attitude about her sordid past, and with any luck she'll be able to talk to her daughter, Leah, about her experiences openly once she's old enough. Either that or Leah can just watch Teen Mom. Either way!
