Amber and Derek had the highest scores on Week 1, and even though they didn’t always have the top scores throughout the season, they topped the leaderboard on Monday’s Finals Night 1 and again on Tuesday’s Night 2. It’s possible that sealed the deal for their win. But it’s also possible the scores were just the icing on the cake. If you noticed, #encoreamber was trending on Twitter last night, and if Freestyles win seasons — as the legend goes — they may have already won as people were tweeting.
There’s also the idea that Amber’s biggest competition, Corbin, had serious dance training before coming on the show, and some fans felt he shouldn’t even be there (except maybe as a pro). The other two celebs in the final four — Jack Osbourne, who took third, and Bill Engvall in fourth — just weren’t good enough dancers. Amber was a great dancer, but never perceived as a “ringer.”
Of course, Derek may be the ultimate ringer. Anyone paired with the popular, hugely talented pro immediately jumps to the frontrunner list. Did you know that the last time he wasn't in the Finals was in Season 14 with Maria Menounos when he took fourth place? Before that, his last time away from the finals was also fourth place, with Joanna Krupa on Season 9. The worst he's ever done is sixth place, with his old girlfriend Shannon Elizabeth back on Season 6. He also took fifth place once, and fourth place one other time. The rest of the time he's been first (five times), second (once) and third (once).
Just sayin’ — always bet on Hough, especially when he’s paired with amazing dancers like Kellie Pickler and Amber Riley!
Are you surprised that Amber and Derek won, or did you see this coming a long time ago?
