If you ask us, one undeniable perk about appearing on Dancing with the Stars is the fact that the contestants all get into dynamite shape during the course of the rigorous season. But does Glee starAmber Riley (Mercedes) actually see this as a drawback?
The current DWTS frontrunner spoke to In Touch about enduring some harsh remarks from viewers about her size. “There were a couple [comments], like, ‘She danced well — for her size,’” Amber says. “I don’t want people to think that! I just want to dance well.”
Amber says she’s more comfortable with her body now than she used to be. “You go through your insecurities when you’re younger,” she says. “But the older I got, I just started to like who I was. People should just love themselves.”
“I don’t think it should be an anomaly for a person my size to be able to dance or have confidence,” Amber adds. “Everybody should have confidence. … We deserve it.”
As for losing weight while she’s on the show, Amber says there are two areas of her body that she wants to stay as they are. “Derek gives me a lot of confidence!” she says. “I keep telling Derek, ‘If I lose my butt and my hips, you’re outta here!’” She’s too funny!
We love that Amber is so at ease in her own skin, and we’re wishing her all the best as continues to dance circles around the competition.
