Ugly Betty’s America Ferrera to Return to TV in CBS Drama… As a Nun?
She may not be Ugly Betty any more, but actress America Ferrera's next regular TV gig doesn't sound much more glamorous!
Deadline reports that the 29-year-old actress is set to star in CBS's drama Damascus, in which she plays a "crusading nun who practices law on behalf of the least fortunate and has her beliefs tested when her life collides with an elitist corporate lawyer. As the two set out to help those in need of justice, they come up against a secretive and powerful organization that is determined to destroy them."
The script from writer Nick Osborne incited a bidding war between the networks, but CBS snapped it up as a "put pilot" — which means that CBS will air the show or else face penalties.
Since the 2010 end of Ugly Betty — in which America played the titular, fashion-backward magazine assistant — America's filmography has been filled with How to Train Your Dragon, its sequel, and its various spin-offs. Her only other TV gig is an arc on The Good Wife, to which she'll return this season.
This all sounds great, America, but when will we see The Sister of the Traveling Pants 3?
