Downton Abbey Cast: These Actors Should Join The Show!

What happens when you get the upstairs and downstairs members of Downton Abbey together, get them a couple of cocktails, and throw in a Bravo late-night TV host? Just the most fun interview we’ve seen in a good long while.

Four members of the period drama joined Bravo’s Andy Cohen earlier this week for his show, Watch What Happens Live, and their visit led to some surprising revelations including which Americans they’d like to join the predominantly UK cast.

“David Hasselhoff,” quipped Rob James-Collier (Thomas Barrow).

“Anthony Hopkins,” added Lesley Nicol (Mrs. Patmore) before being corrected that Anthony’s technically a Welsh actor despite having dual citizenship.

“Michelle Pfeiffer for...reasons,” chimed in on-screen chauffeur Allen Leech (Tom Branson), who sounded like he’d love to give Ms. Pfeiffer a ride if you know what we mean.

Then Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) quietly suggested the obvious winner: “I always say Ryan Gosling.” Now there’s a choice we’re sure even sneaky underbutler Thomas could get behind even though technically, Ryan is Canadian, not American.

Of course, there are already a couple of non-UK citizens roaming the halls of the Abbey. The Countess of Grantham, Cora Crawley, as played by Elizabeth McGovern while Cora’s mother, Martha Levinson is played by American acting legend Shirley MacLaine.

Much to the Dowager’s disdain, there’s going to be yet another Yankee joining the cast for the Season 4 Christmas Special: Paul Giamatti as Cora’s brother, Harold. Perhaps Ryan Gosling can also tag along for, you know, reasons.
