American Horror Story’s Matt Supercut Will Make You Sick of the Name (VIDEO)
Yes, the name Matt was said so many times in this latest season, American Horror Story: Roanoke, that an industrious YouTube user created a Matt supercut. (Let’s hope no one committed to a Matt drinking game.)
The supercut tracks all the utterances of Matt from the season’s beginnings — when Matt, played by reenactor Dominic Banks, moves into the Roanoke house with wife Shelby — to the character’s bitter end, when the real Shelby murders the real Matt in a rage.
Most of the season covered the reenactment, during which Matt wasn’t the most attentive or protective husband, so you’ll hear Sarah Paulson (as Shelby reenactor Audrey Tindall) screaming for Matt’s help a lot in the video.
The last time a Ryan Murphy television show played tribute to one word to this degree, it was David Schwimmer playing Robert Kardashian and saying the name “Juice,” the nickname for O.J. Simpson. (O.J., coincidentally, is also a character Cuba Gooding Jr. played.)
That juicy trend got its own supercut… and a shout-out at the Emmys.
American Crime Story didn’t hit UPROXX’s goal of 100 Juices, but the Matt count on American Horror Story hit the triple digits.
“‘Matt’ was said over 100 times this season of AHS… so I did this,” YouTube user Celluloid writes in the supercut’s caption. “I just have a lot of free time.”
Who knows what name the American Horror Story characters will utter ad infinitum next season… but the writers would be well-advised to make it monosyllabic.
American Horror Story: Roanoke airs on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
