Only 24 hours and change before the penultimate episode of American Horror Story Coven — Episode 12, "Go to Hell," airing Wednesday, January 22 — so let's analyze FX's official synopsis. The network teases:

Cordelia's [Sarah Paulson] latest vision puts the Coven's future in question. With the end of Fiona's [Jessica Lange] reign approaching, the girls manifest powerful new gifts. Queenie's [Gabourey Sidibe] search for Marie Laveau [Angela Bassett] leads her to Hell and back.

Interesting, no? If we're talking about Cordelia's "latest" vision, that would imply that her self-mutilation last week — gross though it may have been — totally worked. Or, at least, worked in some way.

Meanwhile, Fiona is winding down. Perhaps that axe-to-the-neck boardroom coup was her crowning achievement — in which case, we say, "Brava!"

As she fades into legend, her would-be successors get stronger with "new gifts." What new powers has the coven not yet experienced? We're eager to find out.

And Queenie goes to "hell and back" to find Marie, leading us to believe that she'll come face-to-face with Papa Legba (Lance Riddick) and his freaky white irises. Unfortunately, she might not find Marie in good condition.

We're braced!

American Horror Story: Coven Episode 12, "Go to Hell," airs Wednesday, January 22, at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
