Could the fourth season of American Horror Story be the FX hit's scariest round yet? Entertainment Weekly extracted more details out of co-creator Ryan Murphy, and it sounds like we're in for the scares of a lifetime.
The veteran TV producer says that the show's biggest star is the one to thank (or blame) for Season 4's theme — Freak Show — as she was one of its most ardent proponents.
"It was always a concept that Jessica and I talked about really early on," Ryan says. "It was always her favorite one, which I thought was funny. I've had many different versions that I've run by her."
If you weren't aware, the two-time Oscar winner will play a German ex-pat who runs a sideshow for rescued performers in 1950s-era Jupiter, FL.
As Ryan elaborates, the theme is freakily perfect: "I just love it. It feels really right. I thought it was going to be light, but it's turning out to be quite terrifyingly dark… It feels much more like the Asylum season.
To prove his point, he reveals one of the main villains of Freak Show. "If you have a character named the Clown Killer, it’s going to be dark," he says, adding that the murderous buffoon is the "most terrifying clown ever."
Oh, hello, nightmare. Goodbye, good night's sleep.
