American Idol 2012 Speculation: Our “This Decade” Song Picks for the Top 7

This week’s theme is Songs of This Decade, which means our American Idol Top 7 are working with some pretty current hits, considering we’re only a little over two years into this decade! Here’s what we’d like to see the contestants sing this week:

Joshua Ledet: “Grenade” by Bruno Mars
We like when Joshua shows off his super-suave showmanship, and this would be a great showcase for it!

Hollie Cavanagh: “Without You” by David Guetta
It worked for Lea Michele on Glee, and we think Hollie would sound terrific on this track.

Phillip Phillips: “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri
Runner-up Josh Krajcik did a fantastic version of this on The X Factor, and we’d like to see Phillip show a little vulnerability.

Elise Testone: “You and I” by Lady Gaga
It’s go-big-or-go-home time for Elise, so we figure she may as well take on Gaga. She can rock a big piano number, as she proved with Adele’s “One and Only” weeks ago.

Jessica Sanchez: “Love on Top” by Beyonce
We already know Jessica’s a fan of Queen B, and this song is just ridiculously awesome.

Colton Dixon: “What The Water Gave Me” by Florence + the Machine
We don’t have any fancy reasoning here, we just think it could be awesome. Plus we like it when guys sing girl songs.

Skylar Laine: “Mean” by Taylor Swift
Because honestly, why wouldn’t she? Swifty’s the darling of the country world, and frankly it’s not that hard to outsing her!
