‘American Idol’ Alum John Stevens Hit By Van, Faces Deafness

American Idol alum John Stevens was struck by a van in Chelsea, Massachusetts last week while out for an evening run (yes, with earbuds in) landing himself in the hospital.

The Boston Globe reports the accident happened in the evening and outside of a crosswalk with a witness telling officials the van’s driver was not speeding.

The Season 3 contestant — who finished in sixth place — was treated at Massachusetts General Hospital before being taken to Buffalo, New York to recover with his parents.

As a result of the incident, the 28-year-old suffered a fractured skull, broken arm, and deafness in his right ear.

The driver of the van will reportedly not be facing charges.

The singer wrote a Facebook post from June 25, revealing that while he’ll recover from his injuries he’ll have “some, if not total deafness in my right ear.”

“Thank you very much for all of the well wishes and prayers,” he wrote. “It truly means alot to me.”
