Candice Glover and Kree Harrison are in the running to be the American Idol Season 12 winner.

But will the soul diva or the country crooner reign supreme this year?

Honestly, we’re just glad to see two women singing their hearts out for the crown. American Idol 2013 fans and even the show’s producers have griped about the lack of female winner over the last several years. The last girl to win American Idol was Season 6’s Jordin Sparks.

But choosing between Candice Glover and Kree Harrison is like deciding between cake and ice cream for dessert: Both choices are great, but it’s simply a matter of taste.

For Candice, making it to the Top 2 is a dream years in the making. This year was her third time trying out for American Idol, and we’re pretty sure she had no expectations about making it this far in the competition. You gotta admire her perseverance — and it certainly doesn’t hurt that she has one of the best voices in recent Idol history.

On the other hand, Kree has proved to be a consistent and confident performer throughout her time on the show. Much like Candice, she can sing pretty much anything and make it seem effortless. And considering how Idol fans historically love a good country singer (see: Carrie Underwood, and Season 10’s showdown between Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina), Kree has a strong chance of making it all the way next week.

Judging from their performances tonight on part one of the American Idol finale, viewers are going to have a difficult time making the right call. In a new twist, both Candice and Kree performed a signature song that would be released as their first single upon winning. The songs fit each singer's style well, with Kree's track being very country and Candice's taking a more pop approach to soul.
