When American Idol judge Randy Jackson announced he was quitting the show after twelve long years, it wasn't really a shock. But why does he say he quit the show?
“Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season,” Randy told E! News. “I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.”
Rumors swirled before the beginning of American Idol 2013 that Randy would not be returning this season, although he might come back as a mentor instead. Some sources said he was going to be fired, others said he had quit.
According to the snarkiest gossip, Randy was only brought back for the American Idol judges panel for Season 12 because negotiations with another 'star' performer fell through.
On American Idol Season 12, Randy Jackson seemed to have already checked out by the time the show reached the Top 10. Every critique has sounded pretty much the same all season long, with Randy repeating his overused catchphrases so often — we started to wonder if he had been replaced by a hologram recording.
We've loved the 'Dawg' since Season 1, but we think it is indeed time for him to move on.
