The news that Phillip Phillips had to cancel the last nine shows on his summer college tour hit us like a freight train. If you followed him on American Idol, you know that he had a whopping eight surgeries during his run on the show for a painful kidney condition. Due to a congenital kidney condition, his body reportedly makes kidney stones that are too big to pass naturally. So when the news came down of his concerts being canceled, many have asked is Phillip Phillips okay?

The answer seems to be “yes and no,” or perhaps what’s better is he will be. Apparently, his body didn’t recover as well as the doctor would have liked after having surgery last year to remove the massive kidney stones.

A source told The Hollywood Reporter, “His body doesn’t bounce back, and he’s been feeling run-down.”

His doctor said he has to get off the road,” the source continued to explain. “He was playing six shows a week, and it’s too much for him.”

2 took to Facebook to assure his fans all would be alright, saying, “Hey guys, due to doctor’s orders I have to postpone my last few tour dates. They will be rescheduled!” he wrote. “Looking forward to seeing you all on the John Mayer tour this summer!”

He assured fans that the dates would be rescheduled and, according to his Twitter page, he has made good on his promise. It looks like all but the Dublin shows have been rescheduled for the fall.

His absence certainly hasn’t been missed on the radio, as his current single, “Gone, Gone, Gone” has a made a top ten showing on the charts.

We’re thrilled to hear that he’s taking time to get better, and not just because we have tickets to the Hollywood Bowl show (okay, maybe that’s true). It’s actually kind of interesting to consider that this is John Mayer’s comeback tour after having severe tissue inflammation of his vocal cords. They should consider calling this tour “On the Mend.”

Take care of yourself, P-Squared!
