Life is good when you come in third on American Idol, at least for season 12’s Angie Miller. She may have been devastated by not making it into the finale, but she hasn’t stopped her whirlwind of appearances since stepping off the Idol stage. She’s been on a non-stop media blitz that has included The Tonight Show, Ryan Seacrest LIVE, and, most recently, on Live! With Kelly & Michael.
The Boston-area native performed her original song, “You Set Me Free,” and it’s still as hauntingly beautiful as it was that first time she sang it during Hollywood Week.
After the performance, Angie talked with Kelly and Michael about what made her audition for American Idol. At the time, she had just graduated high school, and she had a month to decide whether to audition or whether to accept some of the scholarships she had received to go to college.
It was a risky move but her decision has obviously paid off in spades. At the time, a friend had advised her that college would always be there but, as Angie said, “Now is the time for American Idol.” Indeed!
Being a good sport, Angie gave an impromptu performance of the first song she ever wrote – get this – at the age of five years old. It was filled with nonsensical words but was cute, nonetheless. It sounds like Angie has always had the songwriting chops. It’s no wonder she just landed a huge co-publishing deal with Universal. The girl is going places!
