Former American Idol contestants Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo tied the night tonight on June 1, 2013, in Los Angeles. If you remember (really, how could you forget?), the Season 5 finalist Ace, 32, gave viewers another reason (other than incredibly hot winner Phillip Phillips) to celebrate last year's big American Idol Season 11 finale: He dropped down on one knee and proposed to Season 3 contestant Diana on live television!
The Hollywood Reporter deemed the on-camera event as "one of the most romantic moments in Idol history." To give you a little taste, Ace's proposal ended with this incredibly touching and sweet line, "You’re my best friend [...] I want to make this last forever, and I will do everything in my power to have the most imaginable amazing life together.” Aww! We're getting teary-eyed just remembering the moment, which you can watch below.
Ace and Diana, who are 7 years apart in age, married at the Luxe Sunset Boulevard hotel in Bel Air in front of 250 guests, including other former Idols Elliot Yamin, Michael Johns, and Kevin Covais. Diana chose a fitted, embellished Sareh Nouri gown that she paired with — get this — blue cowboy boots! What an adorable nod to her country music roots! There were tons of other cute, personal touches to the wedding: the couple wrote their own vows; recorded an original song, "I Do", together for their first dance; and Ace wore a custom-made suit featuring a crest sitting right above the couple's monogram "Forever Young". Check out photos from the ceremony here!
Of her "sexy best" husband, Diana, 25, told People, "This was the best way to start the chapter of my life as Mrs. Young [...] "I'm over the moon with joy and happiness about our wonderful wedding. I can't wait to spend my life with my husband!" Ace also gushed about his new wife (and thanked well-wishers) on Twitter, "Thank you EVERYONE for all the beautiful tweets and well wishes! You all ROCK! I and SO EXCITED to be with@DianaDeGarmo :-)"
Congratulations to the happy couple! We want more Idol weddings this summer!
