The world of entertainment is collectively mourning one of the greats, Sopranos’ star James Gandolfini, who left this world far too soon on Wednesday at the age of 51. His son, Michael, 13, found him collapsed on a bathroom floor while they were doing a father/son trip in Rome, Italy, having been the victim of a heart attack.

American Idol alums and judges took to Twitter to express their condolences. Constantine Maroulis tweeted, “My heart goes out to James Gandolfini’s family and his extended Soprano’s family, his baby girl and fans. What a loss!! #maroonsuburban.” Then the season four alum and Broadway actor posted a gorgeous photo of the sun setting over the Statue of Liberty in NYC, saying, “This sunset is for James.”

Runner-up of the show’s inaugural season Justin Guarini tweeted, “R.I.P. James Gandolfini. You’ll always be the Cappo Di Tutti Capo to me.”  “Cappo Di Tutti Capo” means “boss of all bosses”.

Season five winner Taylor Hicks tweeted, “RIP James Gandolfini...what a great actor. He will be missed.”

Former judge Paula Abdul was crushed by the news, tweeting, “I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of James Gandolfini. I can’t believe it. He’ll be sorely missed. My condolences to his family.”

Season ten stunner PIa Toscano tweeted, “Very sad to hear of James Gandolfini’s passing... Gone way too soon.” Former judge Randy Jackson simply posted, "rip James Gandolfini. too soon."

The actor leaves behind his wife, Deborah Lin, their eight month old daughter, Liliana, and Michael, with whom he was traveling, who is his child from a previous marriage.

The esteemed actor obviously left an indelible impression on those around him, and leaves a huge void with his passing. Our thoughts go out to his family.

He is survived by wife Deborah Lin, and their daughter, Liliana. He also has a son, Michael, from his first marriage.
