Some American Idol contestants fade into obscurity, but no one can say that about season three winner Fantasia Barrino. On top of being nominated for eight Grammy Awards, the mother of two earned critical acclaim for her Broadway debut in the Tony Award-nominated musical The Color Purple in 2007.
Fans will be thrilled to know that the “Lose To Win” singer revealed to Today Show hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford that she will be returning to Broadway. “I’m coming back in October,” she said.
While she didn’t reveal the name of the project, the speculation is that she will be starring in the Broadway transfer of Cotton Club Parade. It’s described on Playbill.com as a musical revue “which celebrates Duke Ellington's years at the famed Harlem nightclub in the 1920s and '30s, played two engagements at New York City Center Encores! in 2011 and 2012.”
Her reps have not confirmed that Fantasia will, indeed, be a part of the revue, but fans will surely be waiting with baited breath to know for sure.
