Extra TV correspondent and Sugar Ray singer Mark McGrath is the latest to throw his hat in the overcrowded ring of consideration for who will be a judge on American Idol 2014. His reasoning behind why the FOX execs should hire him? He’ll do it for free!
"I guest judged American Idol in 2004, and that was a lot of fun," the 45-year musician old told Billboard. "They've done the $20 million salaries and gotten no ratings; they might as well get a guy like me to do it for free.” He went on to say, “Sure, I’d love to do it.”
The outspoken singer also had some thoughts on why the show might have lost a bit of its luster and ratings of old.
“They got really bloated like any music industry product does, and now they have to get a little Napster and aggressive again,” Mark said.
Mark McGrath, who’s known for his self-deprecation, also commented on his next album, saying, “We don't have a record deal, and nobody's waiting for a new Sugar Ray record. But when we're ready and feel it's worthy of release we'll do that on our web site and give it away for free. For a band that's sold 10 million records to say 'give it away for free' is almost blasphemous, but we're trying to be realistic. Definitely look for something by the end of the year on our web site.”
This guy just doesn't wanna make money, does he? Is he really just that giving?
