Phillip Phillips’ third single off his debut album has been announced as “Where We Came From” and, from the sound of it, the season 11 American Idol winner has the midas touch. The seemingly quiet singer has already sold over 900,000 albums, as well as 900,000 singles off The World From the Side of the Moon. His coronation song, “Home,” went on to reach multiplatinum status, having reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 an astounding six times. It was a ubiquitous hit and even became the unofficial anthem for last summer’s Olympics in London.
While his second song, “Gone, Gone, Gone” didn’t do quite as well, it still reached a more than respectable spot at #36 on the Billboard Hot 100. The catchy tune also became the departure song Idol used when a contestant was voted off the show on season 12.
Interestingly enough, the first few strums of the guitar on this new song, “Where We Came From,” are very reminiscent of the music of John Mayer, with whom he’s touring in a few short days. While it may bear some similarities, it also has P-2’s stamp on it, as the singer, who had to cancel some shows a few months ago due to a congenital kidney problem, certainly has his own signature sound.
“Where We Came From,” which was co-written by Phillip and Jon Green, is set to head to triple a radio on July 15.
Give it a listen. We happen to love it. What are your thoughts?
