The powers that be at American Idol originally wanted the winner to release an album within 6-8 weeks of the Season 12 finale, with the target date being July 16. Winner Candice Glover recently announced that the release date of her debut album had been pushed back until August 27.
As of this morning, “Candi Girl” tweeted that the new release date for the album, Music Speaks, is October 8th. So much for striking while the iron is hot.
The powerhouse singer wrote, “Excited to say that the album will be out October 8th. Can’t wait for ya’ll to hear it! I promise it’ll be worth the wait! #MusicSpeaksOct8.”
While this is more in line with past winners, who mostly release albums in the fall, we can’t help but feel that this doesn’t bode well for the talented singer. Her coronation single, “I Am Beautiful,” had the worst first week of sales of any past Idol winner.
On the bright side, the South Carolina native is releasing a single first. Candice will be performing the song while on the American Idol Live! Tour, which starts in Seattle on July 19. Hopefully the song will have enough of a hook to compel fans to buy the album, no matter what the launch date.
Will you buy Candice Glover’s debut album?
