Tell us "Straight Up" — would you watch Paula Abdul act on TV?

The 51-year-old is no stranger to appearing on TV — having served on the judging panels for American Idol, The X Factor, and Live to Dance, but she's ready to make the leap from reality to scripted fare.

"I’m broadening my horizons into creating and producing content, performing in scripted dramas and half-hour television programs," she tells ABC News.

"My love for television began a long time ago when I first started working with James L. Brooks on The Tracey Ullman Show. He became my mentor on the show …  I’m definitely ready and excited to make the transition into acting."

For those of us too young to understand that reference, The Tracey Ullman Show was a variety show which actually spawned The Simpsons. Paula choreographed the show's many musical numbers. (James L. Brooks is also well-known for his cinematic work, having written and directed Terms of Endearment, As Good As It Gets, Spanglish, and How Do You Know.)

Paula has acted before, however, having appeared on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Family Guy, That's So Raven, Robots, and Less Than Perfect.
