And the winner is... Kenichi Ebina! That's right: Kenichi defeated runner-up Taylor Williamson in the thrilling finale.
Okay, so this isn't a huge surprise, since he's been the heavy favorite since pretty much the start of the season. Still, we're thrilled for the guy, as his talent and creativity never failed to blow us away.
Original story: Kenichi Ebina has been basically blowing the judges’ minds — and ours! — since he stepped foot onstage, en route to becoming an America’s Got Talent 2013 Top 6 finalist. So we know that he’s a major frontrunner for the crown, but where exactly has he been all of our lives?
Kenichi, who was 38 at the time of his AGT audition, actually taught himself everything that he knows about dancing. Seriously. He started out his dance career focusing on freestyle hip-hop dance and now is comfortable with a variety of dance styles, including jazz and contemporary.
If Kenichi looks especially comfortable onstage, there’s a reason for that: This isn’t his first rodeo. In fact, he founded a Japanese dance group back in 2001 called BiTriP, which went on to take the top prize at the Apollo Theater’s “Amateur Night.”
After that, Kenichi competed as a solo performer in a dance contest on Showtime at the Apollo in 2007, and he was named the show’s 2007 grand champion. Other TV appearances include dancing on the PBS Kids show Angelina Ballerina, not to mention that his dance company, Ebina Performing Arts, has performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
And Kenichi has been lighting up the Radio City stage all season with his inventive, multimedia-infused performances. With Howie and Heidi both saying during the last performance episode that he’s their favorite act, it seems like only a matter of time before even more people know Kenichi Ebina’s name!
