Did you catch Malcolm Allen’s audition during the January 15 premiere of American Idol? In Jennifer Lopez’s book, this kid's a natural. The 2014 American Idol contestant’s rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” was giving J.Lo all kinds of goosebumps. And his version of Rose Royce's "I'm Goin' Down" got him into the Top 31!

“Mmm come on,” the judge playfully scoffed as Malcolm performed in Austin, Texas. Keith Urban appeared less impressed (though we think he might just be playing hard to get) while new judge, Harry Connick Jr, looked like he wanted to jump up and starting singing with Malcolm right then and there.

“He’s a natural,” Jennifer added as she leaned forward to, we think, scrawl “a star is born” in all caps across her handy Idol-provided notepad. That is, if she doesn’t make good on her threat and throw her pen at Malcolm for being “so natural.”

If the young man’s audition didn’t already prove he’s got what it takes to make the Top 31 (or so we’ve heard), a few minutes on his YouTube channel should do the trick.

Malcolm doesn’t have much in the way of songs but proves his “Superstition” cover wasn’t just good luck. Only one small detail: Malcolm refers to himself as Mac Anthony in one of his videos, a nickname J.Lo may not take too kindly to...
