Thirteen may just be American Idol’s lucky number. The established Fox favorite kicks off its thirteenth year next Wednesday (January 15) and already has a number of game-changing plans in store for the season ahead.
First, of course, is a sparkly new judging panel. Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban will be joined by the very hunky, very talented, very perfect Harry Connick Jr. Our close analysis of the promos indicate Harry (or, as he will always be in our Will & Grace-loving hearts, Leo Markus) adds a much-needed jolt of energy and a big ole helpin' of charm to this year’s Idol.
But that’s not the only huge change the producers have in store. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Season 13 finale could be taking place in a brand new location: New York City!
An unidentified source tells THR the recently renovated Madison Square Garden will host the season’s final episode. It would be a major change for the series, which typically calls Los Angeles home. But before you book your ticket for the Big Apple, be warned another source says the rumor, which began circulating on Idol blogs this week, is simply “not true.” Fox has yet to publicly comment on the matter.
If, however, Ryan and Crew are in fact heading east, how cool would that be! Beside being an iconic venue, Madison Square Garden fits more than 18,000 people! Talk about a great way to kick off your career.
