It's the second week of American Idol and if last week's premiere was any indication, we're in for a great season. True, the Season 13 premiere on Wednesday, January 15, and Thursday, January 16, didn't do stellar in terms of ratings but the judges, who aren't exactly hard on the eyes, stole the show with their lighthearted banter and sincere concern for the well being of this year's contestants.
Speaking of contestants, there were some real standouts in the first round of auditions. In fact, so much talent passed through the doors we're wondering how in the world the judges will make their picks in upcoming rounds of the show. And then to think we have to weigh in too! Talk about responsibility.
If you need to play catch-up on the season, we've got a recap of both the January 15 episode and January 16's two-hour addition. Be sure to check back here tonight (January 22) as we get going on another two hours of Idol-ness. We'll have all the latest on what Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and current darling of reality TV Harry Connick, Jr get up to not to mention Ryan Seacrest and this year's wannabe winners!
8:05 p.m. ET: Our first Detroit contestant is through, but all we care about is that Harry Connick, Jr. is back on our TVs. Sorry we're not sorry.
8:07 p.m. ET: We love Paris Primeau's voice! So glad she got through, and it appears the Johnny Depp lookalike she brought with her is pretty proud, too.
8:16 p.m. ET: Is it just us, or are the younger teens rocking it this year so far? We feel like we've seen way more talented under 18-ers in Season 13 than ever before.
8:18 p.m. ET: Bryan Watt, we love you already. He's just got this face that says, "I'll make you soup when you're sick, and tip my hat at old ladies after I help them cross the street."
8:21 p.m. ET: Keith might think Khristian Davis's voice is a little inconsistent, but those polka dot shoes are to die for. Where'd you get them?!
8:32 p.m. ET: Harry Connick, Jr. just called someone beautiful, and it wasn't us. Um, the jealousy over here is off the charts.
8:37 p.m. ET: Okay, how adorable are Melanie Porras and her father?
8:42 p.m. ET: The judges are so sassy this year. We should have started keeping track of how often they make fun of the contestants last week. "They're not laughing at you, they're laughing near you."
8:43 p.m. ET: We've never wanted anything so bad as for Liam Newbury to completely blow the judges away. The tie. The glasses. The pants. We love him.
8:45 p.m. ET: Aaaand not what happened at all.
8:50 p.m. ET: Audition for American Idol while Keith Urban plays guitar and you sing. Not a bad day, huh?
8:55 p.m. ET: OMG, the Delta woman! She makes us nuts at the beginning of all our flights. "Nooo smoking!"
9:06 p.m. ET: We do have to wonder how Harry and Keith feel when everyone walks in the room and calls Jennifer beautiful and kind of ignores them — and they're not bad-looking dudes, either. Especially not you, Harry. We're winking at you, you just can't see it.
9:10 p.m. ET: "And together, we are The Twins." Why do people continue to audition together when the gimmick continues to not work?
9:19 p.m. ET: Brandy Neelly, you have a voice we did not expect. And you get applause from Keith Urban. A+
9:23 p.m. ET: Ethan Harris can sing and draw? And he knows how to make copies? Total package.
9:32 p.m. ET: We really like Symphony Howlett, but is that really her name?
9:43 p.m. ET: The beard on this guy deserves its own Golden Ticket.
9:46 p.m. ET: Ryan Nisbitt has the tallest hair we've ever seen. We don't hate it. His rendition of The Official Sarah McLachlan Song Of Sad and Abused Animals, though? We're not too sure about it.
9:55 p.m. ET: The 17-year-old Marrialle Sellars is back for her full audition and we love her just as much as we did when we were introduced to her last week. The judges obviously want her to win the whole thing. We're so excited to see how she does this season!
Night three of auditions is now complete, but don't worry — we're back tomorrow for round 4. See you then!
