A 21-year-old preschool teacher named Rochelle York — better known to American Idol fans as Majesty Rose — was an early standout during her first audition in American Idol Season 13, wowing the judges with her "effortless" rendition of Coldplay's "Violet Hill."
"I like that headband," Harry remarked. "That says, I'm cute. Does that make you feel cute? You really are cute."
Luckily for this native of Goldsboro, North Carolina, her voice made an even bigger impression.
"Just hearing you sing and play a lovely melody in a quiet, elegant way is refreshing — and that bodes well for you because not a lot of people do that anymore," Harry raved.
"You completely pulled me in," Keith commented. "It's almost like the quieter you got, the more I leaned in. Like, I went in there with you. It's a really good sign."
Despite all the admiration, Majesty seemed stricken by disbelief. "You like me?" she said as J.Lo handed her a golden ticket. "This is great! This is really great."
She was even happier when the judges put her in the Top 31 during the February 13 episode.
And she proved her elation with a rendition of Pharrell's "Happy" during Rush Week.
We don't know a whole lot about Majesty other than what she lists on Facebook. It seems like she's deeply religious and she has a wide range of "Likes" including Nicki Minaj, cookie dough, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, brownies, Will Smith, American Eagle, and the Boston Celtics.
We're looking forward to hearing a lot more from this Rose!
