"God, what an awesome name," Keith Urban raved as Austin introduced herself in the January 29 episode.
But then the 16-year-old started singing — auditioning with an a capella version of Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive."
"Austin, I feel like you have the whole package," Jennifer Lopez raved when the Park City, UT, student finished the performance.
Harry Connick Jr. even went so far as to equate the Park City, Utah, student to Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams.
After she emerged from the audition room clutching a golden ticket, Austin confessed to her waiting family and friends that she was intimidated by J.Lo: "She wasn't smiling or anything, and then she was like… [Nods.]"
According to her ReverbNation page, Austin describes herself as "a singer/songwriter who creates soulful pop ballads that resonate with young adults."
And her Idol trajectory was prognosticated by local newspaper Park Record, who profiled her in 2010 — when she was only 13! — in a feature titled "Next Stop: American Idol?"
"I've been singing pretty much since I could talk," the then-seventh-grader to the paper. "I've always wanted to be a pop star."
Seems like she's well on her way!
