Though we definitely got a preview of Live Performances during American Idol’s all-new Rush Week, the time we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. The final 13 contestants will be battling it out in the hopes of becoming the next big superstar — and the fun and craziness all begins tonight (February 26)!

In another effort to distinguish the show from the previous 12 seasons, Idol producers have decided to be a little bit more lenient with their weekly themes. Instead of going with narrow and recycled themes like Motown and Billy Joel, producers have opted for broader topics, like tonight’s theme, “This Is Me.”

Eighth to take the stage is Jena Irene Asciutto, the 17-year-old powerhouse rocker from Farmington Hills, Michigan. After earning one of three wildcard spots at the end of Rush Week, Jena’s out to prove that the judges didn’t make the wrong decision. She decides to sing “The Scientist” by Coldplay, which just so happens to be the very first song she learned on the piano.

Jena opts to go instrument-free for her performance, but the judges still seem pretty impressed. “You have such a unique voice,” says J.Lo. “There are so many different dynamics and nuances in your voice, and you use it so well. On top of that, you’re a powerhouse too. That was a tough song, but somehow you pulled it off.”

Do you think Jena deserves to make it to the Top 12? Sound off in the comments!
