No surprise here but tonight was a hard episode of American Idol to watch. We've spent nearly two months with these kids, watching them push through auditions, Hollywood Week, and, most recently, the rough round known as Rush Week. To say goodbye to one so soon after they've all finally made the big stage seems kinda cruel in a way.

But this is American Idol and only one singer reigns supreme. Or, as Ryan puts it, "It's happy times now" before he checks us back into reality by reminding us that tonight is indeed an elimination episode. This is why Ryan's the host and we, we're just faithful viewers.

So who went home? All in good time, all in good time. Idol didn't reveal who did and didn't make the Top 12 until the very end of the show. Darn you, American Idol!

As we waited for the big reveal, we got to see the contestants pledge friendship forever over food and drink, a great performance by last year's winner, Candice Glover, and even a number by English artist Jake Bugg.

In less happy news, we also learned who made the bottom three: Malaya WatsonMK Nobilette, and Kristen O'Connor

After what seemed like a decade, finally the big moment arrived. Tonight, February 27, Kristen O'Connor was sent packing after the judges decided to pass on using their one save for the season.

As sad as we are to see her go, Idol isn't the end. Best of luck Kristen and we'll be looking out for you!

American Idol returns next week on Wednesday, March 5, with another two-hour show as the Top 12 perform to the theme of "Home," or exactly where they hope not to go in a week's time.
