It’s hard to believe that American Idol started almost two months ago, but here we are watching the Top 12 compete for the country’s votes! The producers of the show have decided to stick with their decision to embrace some broader themes this year, which means the contestants won’t be stuck with narrow topics like Motown or Billy Joel.

Tonight’s episode (March 5) is sure to bring some serious competition, as the contestants sing songs that remind themselves of “Home.” Though we’ve gotten to know the remaining contestants fairly well over the last few weeks, the personal theme promises to reveal more intimate sides of them than we’ve seen before.

First to take the stage is Jena Irene Asciutto, the 17-year-old powerhouse rocker from the suburbs of Detroit. After wowing the judges with her unique and dynamic performance of Coldplay’s “The Scientist” last week, Jena opts to go a little more upbeat with KT Tunstall’s “Suddenly I See.” “It reminds me of home,” she says. “It’s happy!”

The judges are clearly impressed with this brighter, bubbly side of her. “Gosh, I like your stage presence!” Keith exclaims. “It’s really coming to life. I love seeing this different side of you!”

“What I’m starting to learn from you is that it really doesn’t matter what song you sing,” adds J.Lo. “The uniqueness of the tone of your voice makes it your own.”

Do you think Jena deserves to make it to the Top 11? Sound off in the comments!
