As much as we love the process of American Idol, it gets harder each week to watch yet another one of our beloved contestants pack their bags and say goodbye. It’s already been an emotional week for theTop 12 hopefuls, as they were tasked to sing songs that reminded them of home.
Of course, this is a competition show and only one singer can reign supreme. More bluntly put, tonight will reveal which remaining contestant got the smallest number of votes from the country.
So who went home? Well, all in good time, Idol fans! In the grand tradition of the show, host Ryan Seacrest didn’t announce the eliminated contestant until the last few minutes of the episode. As we waited for the big reveal, we were treated to performances by Irish rock band Kodaline, as well as Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips. (Side note: We’re loving his new single, “Raging Fire.” Aren’t you?)
In less happy news, we also learned who made the bottom three: Emily Piriz, Jena Irene, and MK Nobilette. It’s the second week in a row that the bottom’s been all girls, and also the second week in the bottom for MK Nobilette.
After what felt like a million years, the big moment finally arrived. Tonight, March 6, Emily Piriz was sent packing after the judges decided to not use their one and only save of the season.
As sad as we are to see Emily go, we know we’ve got a phenomenal season to look forward to. Best of luck to Emily in her future endeavors, and here’s hoping the remaining contenders continue to deliver some amazing performances!
American Idol returns for the Top 11 performances on Wednesday, March 12!
