It’s hard to believe that American Idol started almost two months ago, but here we are watching the contestants fight for a spot on the summer tour! On tonight’s episode (March 12), the 11 remainders contenders will show us their true artistry by taking on “Songs From the Cinema.” We’re actually more excited by this theme than we have been in awhile — so much so that we even picked our own choices for them to sing!

Next to take the stage is Alex Preston, who wasn’t exactly the judges favorite last week. Alex is out to prove that he’s got what it takes to stay in the competition, so he decides to return to the intimate style of performance we’ve seen and loved. Taking on “Falling Slowly” from the Oscar-winning move Once, Alex delivers a strong and beautiful rendition, free of any cheap theatrics.

“I’m so glad that on a platform as hugely visible as American Idol, there’s still an opportunity for a young guy with a guitar to just sing a pretty song without a bunch of fireworks,” says Harry. “It was nice to see something simply stated and elegantly done. I’m really proud of you, man.”

“What I love about your performances is they always hold my attention,” adds Keith. “I think it’s because it’s very raw and it’s fragile. I mean that in the most complimentary way. You don’t ever phone it in. I love your artistry.”

Do you think Alex deserves to make it to the Top 10? Sound off in the comments!
