One reality TV show wasn’t enough for a former American Idol contestant. Remember sassy Season Seven Idol hopeful Danny Noriega? Well, it’s been six years since his fairly successful run on Idol and Danny is now partaking in RuPaul’s Drag Race under his drag queen alter ego, Adore Delano. In an interview with Yahoo! News, Danny described the fun he has as Adore.

“She’s very, very vulgar, crazy. She’s a party animal. She’s fun. Just like no fs are given, you know? Everything I can’t do as Danny, I can do as her. She’s just punk-rock. She’s a punk-rock mermaid!” he gushed.

While Danny doesn’t want to bite the hand that feeds him (read: Idol), he did say the person he really wanted to be on the show was suppressed by the powers that be.

“The experience was amazing and I’m forever grateful for it, but I feel like I wasn’t allowed to go as far as I wanted to,” he explained. “There was just certain makeup that I wanted to wear and certain songs that I wanted to sing that I wasn’t allowed to … I wasn’t allowed to be as ‘out there’ as I wanted to be. I was actually told to calm it down.”

Wow, that’s a powerful comment on the show, or at least the show at the time when Danny was competing.

Turns out the Idol-RuPal connections don’t end with Danny. Adore Delano will be going up against Australian Idol veteran Shane Jenek, aka Courtney Act. The Sydney native tried out for Idol as Shane and was rejected. Undeterred, he returned the next day as Courtney and, according to his website bio, she “sent audiences wild and Australia had a new, slightly less conventional sweetheart.”

It’s nice to see Idol alums back on the screen! Will you be watching when Adore and Courtney compete on RuPaul’s show? Let us know below!
