We’ve been making predictions about who goes home on American Idol for a few seasons now, and most weeks it’s fairly difficult to make a guess. This week, however, the Ben Briley writing seems to be on the wall. Sorry, Ben!

The normally country-centric Ben slicked back his hair and possibly raided Hugh Hefner’s closet for his performance of Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets.” The song made a cameo during the lesser known rom-com 27 Dresses. (For those you that, like Ben, haven’t seen the movie, just fast forward to the part when Katherine Heigl and James Marsden drunkenly sing the song at a divey bar.)

Although Ben said the reason for his performance was because his mother always loved Elton, there seemed to be a lack of connection to the song. To borrow a phrase from former judge Simon Cowell, the whole thing felt very karaoke. And the judges didn’t hold back when it came to their feelings on the performance.

"I never know if we've really heard the real Ben," Harry Connick, Jr. said, solidifying his nickname, Harsh Harry. "There seems to be a slight affectation to your voice, a throaty sound. It's hard to describe."

“Part of the joy of this show is watching the transformation and watching you guys find yourself,” Jennifer Lopez said with sincerity. “I’m a little bit confused because you were so country last week and now this week it’s Elton John. I’m trying to figure it out. I thought it was a good vocal performance, but I don’t know that it suited who you are.”

Social media is a powerful predictor as well, and Ben is almost at the bottom of the pack when it comes to Twitter followers. While Alex Preston has an impressive 26.1K followers and Sam Woolf has an almost incomprehensible 37.1K, Ben has a mere 8,124 followers.

Interestingly enough, Caleb Johnson is actually at the very bottom with only 6,479, but we have a theory that he might be too hard to find on Twitter (as he goes by Caleb Perry). To boot, Caleb blew the judges and viewers away with a powerful performance of Adele’s “Skyfall,” so he should be safe.

Everyone else really knocked it out of the park this week, so it’s tough to guess who will round out the bottom three. If we had to take a stab at it, we’d say MK Nobilette and Majesty Rose will be the ones to join Ben on the stools of doom. MK’s found herself in the bottom three the last two weeks, while Majesty’s performance of “Let It Go” was simply too big for her to handle.

Who do you think will go home tonight? What do you think of our prediction? Sound off in the comments!
