Tonight was tough and not just because American Idol upped and changed the time of the elimination show. Yeah, they gave us warning but that doesn’t mean we were mentally prepared for Idol to air at 9 p.m.

There was one ray of sunshine in the rather dark cloud that hung over this evening’s Idol and its name is Harry Connick, Jr. The Southern cutie was the first judge of Season 13 to take the stage himself and boy, he did not disappoint. Performing a medley of his hits, Harry proved he can walk the walk as well as talk the talk. Did you see him play that piano?! Hope the remaining contestants took notes.

Who, by the by, is actually remaining to compete? Tonight we whittled the Top 11 down to the Top 10. This was a particularly special round because the ten who made it through also get to go on the super cool American Idol tour this summer, which is a pretty awesome consolation prize in our books if you don’t actually take home the title at the end of the day.

Unfortunately, someone didn’t make the tour bus. In the bottom three this evening were Ben BrileyMajesty Rose, and Sam Woolf. They’ve all been favorites this far in the season so seeing them in the bottom three was particularly hard though, we’ll admit, not totally surprising, at least in our book.

Sadly, it was Ben who got the boot and though we’re confident he has many great performances ahead, they won’t be on American Idol after the three judges decided to pass on using their save. Good luck, friend!

American Idol returns for the Top 10 performances on Wednesday, March 19! Will you be watching?
