We’ll just get this out of the way right now: We hate American Idol elimination nights. Though we love the excitement and anticipation that each of these episodes bring, it really does suck to say goodbye to someone we feel like we’ve come to know.
Of course, tonight (March 20) was just as tough as ever — even more so as the group keeps getting honed to the most talented of the bunch. That said, there really is a silver lining about tonight’s elimination round. No matter who goes home, all of the Top 10 will be reuniting later this year for the Idol summer tour!
So, who was that unlucky person to pack their bags and say goodbye? All in good time, Idol fans! As usual, there was a lot of buildup before we actually heard the results. Louisiana-based indie pop group Royal Teeth took the stage to perform their song “Wild” , and even our very own Jennifer Lopez gave the world premiere performance of hit new single “I Luh Ya Papi.” (In case you haven’t seen the super sexy music video, you can get your eyes full here.)
Finally, it’s time to learn the contestants’ fates. Those that are safe tonight include Jessica Meuse, Majesty Rose, Alex Preston, Caleb Johnson, CJ Harris, Jena Irene, and Sam Woolf.
Unfortunately, that means Dexter Roberts, Majesty Rose, and MK Nobilette had to take their seats on dreaded three stools. After what seemed like forever, Ryan Seacrest finally announced the smallest vote-earner of the night. After deciding not to use their one and only save of the season, the judges had to say a sad farewell to San Francisco native MK.
Though we’re heartbroken to see the singer go, we know we have a lot to look forward to from the remaining nine contestants! In case you need one more refresher, those contenders are:
