If you let out a “squee” when you found out American Idol results shows were being cut down to a half-hour as of this Thursday, March 27, you will likely let out a downright howl when you hear who is performing live — Grammy Award-nominated singer Janelle Monáe! (G’ahead. Do your happy dance.)

The popstar is nearly as well known for her signature pompadour as she is for her music, and we totally dig her style. According to music site SingersRoom.com, she’s set to perform her new single, “What Is Love,” from the album Rio 2: Music from the Motion Picture. The song is available on iTunes now, with the whole album hitting stores on March 25.

It will be interesting to see Majesty Rose watch one of her icons perform. Not only did she slay her rendition of Janelle’s “Tightrope” a few weeks ago, but she’s even copied Janelle’s famous ‘do. The American Idol judges loved Majesty’s version of the song, with Harsh Harry Connick, Jr. even telling her, “That was terrific, Majesty, that really was." Do we see a collaboration between these two in the finale? Only time will tell...

American Idol’s ratings have been in a serious freefall for a while now, and the show is reportedly only returning in a reduced capacity as of next season. There’s no denying, however, Idol still lands some seriously talented individuals when it comes to live performances.

Are you excited to see Janelle perform on Thursday at 9 pm ET? Let us know in the comments!
