The American Idol Top 8 is now officially a Top 7.  It’s a bummer anytime we have to say goodbye to a contestant, but that’s how the show works… and unfortunately, this time, it was Malaya Watson who was voted out, just as we predicted after Wednesday’s performance show.

Was America right to send Malaya home? As much as it sucks that she had to go — and how obviously talented she really is — we think she was the most logical choice. As the Season 13 hopefuls are becoming more steady on their feet with each passing week, the competition is continuing to get toucher. While the '80s numbers were more lackluster than in weeks past, Malaya’s performance was one of the weakest.

Here’s the thing about Malaya, though: At just 16 years old, it’s incredible that she managed to make it this far in the competition. That powerful voice on a teenager? It blew us away week after week. And despite the fact that it wasn’t up to snuff this time around doesn’t mean she doesn’t have an amazing future in music ahead of her.

In fact, we’d love to see her come back to the Idol stage in the future, when her talent’s had a little more time to mature and be cultivated into exactly what Malaya needs it to be. She has undoubtedly captured our attention with her seriously impressive vocal chops, and we know once she manages to iron out the technical kinks in her singing, she’s going to be huge.

We’re sad that Malaya had to go but she should be very proud of all she’s accomplished. We can’t wait to see more from her in the future!

Are you happy with America’s decision, or would you rather have seen someone else go?
