After 13 seasons, American Idol was bound to lose steam eventually. Although the show isn’t what it once was in the golden age of Simon Cowell, we love watching Harry Connick, Jr. and Keith Urban banter back and forth every week. But unfortunately, not everyone feels the same way — reportedly, not even the show’s staff.

According to RadarOnline.com, Idol’s rankings are tanking so hard its staff are already starting to look for new jobs just in case the show is canceled.

“The crew and staff on Idol are not new to the industry and have been around the block before,” an insider said. “They know a sinking ship when they see one. Anyone smart working on the show has already put out feelers for a new gig. The show is on its way out, and they don’t want to be dragged down with it.”

So what’s the problem? Aside from the fact that ratings have taken a huge dip this year, show competition is fierce. Would you want to be up against Adam Levine for anything? Didn’t think so.

“All the judging changes and feuds have really hurt the show,” the source added. “They just can’t compete with The Voice. They have likable judges and talented contestants. Idol got too showy and lost sight of what the show was really there to accomplish.”

This could be true, but we’re not sure the show is going under that quickly. Instead, there have been reports that a smaller scale Season 14 is in the works, which might help determine whether or not the future of the show is viable.

Do you think Idol is on the way out? Would you be sad to see it go?
